If you smell gas, hear escaping gas, believe there is an active leak or think there is immediate danger, do not wait for a scheduled appointment and do not call Pinnacle first. Leave the area. From a safe location, natural-gas customers should call their natural-gas utility or 911. Propane customers should call their propane supplier; if the supplier cannot be reached, call 911 or the local fire department.
Gas Safety & Emergency Guide →What Pinnacle means by “gas system testing”
Pinnacle offers a paid, booked evaluation for customers who want to understand the condition of an existing fuel-gas system. Depending on the reason for the appointment and the installation, the service can include leak/tightness testing of the customer-side piping, review of accessible gas appliances and appliance connections, shutoffs, visible piping conditions and other fuel-side conditions that can reasonably be evaluated during the visit.
The service is designed for survey, real-estate, homeowner knowledge, property evaluation and product/appliance evaluation. It is not a utility emergency-dispatch service and it does not replace an authority-having-jurisdiction inspection when one is specifically required.
Standard low-pressure system evaluation: 2 PSI and below
The standard service is intended for customer-side natural-gas or propane systems whose normal operating pressure is 2 PSI or below. The exact test method depends on the system, appliances, reason for testing and applicable requirements. “2 PSI and below” describes the operating system category; it does not mean every system is tested at exactly 2 PSI.
Natural gas
Scheduled customer-side evaluation of accessible low-pressure piping, appliance connections and connected gas appliances within Pinnacle's licensed scope.
Propane / LP
Scheduled evaluation of accessible low-pressure propane piping, appliance connections and appliances, with higher-pressure propane testing available as a separate service when appropriate.
Higher-pressure propane testing is a separate service
Where the propane storage tank and customer-side piping can be safely isolated, Pinnacle can evaluate higher-pressure portions of a propane system as a separate service. That work can require additional time, isolation and testing steps and therefore carries a higher charge than the standard low-pressure evaluation. Exact pricing and test scope will be defined before the appointment once the system is understood.
Pinnacle is not currently advertising upstream or utility-side higher-pressure natural-gas testing. Natural-gas service piping, utility equipment, buried service components and street-side infrastructure can involve utility ownership, excavation and project scope beyond this scheduled testing service. Those situations are evaluated individually rather than included by default.
Good reasons to schedule a gas system test
- Homeowner wants a documented baseline or better understanding of an existing gas system.
- Buying or selling a home.
- Real-estate due diligence or property survey.
- A property has multiple gas appliances and the owner wants the fuel system reviewed.
- An appliance or product is being evaluated and the gas supply is part of the question.
- A gas system has been unused for a period of time.
- There is a non-emergency concern about leakage or piping condition.
- A remodel, appliance replacement or future project needs existing-system information.
- A propane customer needs a low-pressure or separately scoped higher-pressure evaluation.
What happens if the system does not hold or an unsafe condition is found?
If testing identifies leakage or another condition that cannot safely remain in service, Pinnacle may isolate the affected appliance or branch when that can be done safely, or place the customer-side gas system out of service when the condition affects the system more broadly.
The affected portion should not be returned to service until the necessary repair is completed and the required retest is satisfactory. If the system cannot be safely isolated to a single appliance or branch, the entire customer-side gas system may need to remain off until repair and retest are complete.
Testing does not automatically authorize repairs
The testing fee covers the scheduled evaluation described for the appointment. Repairs, alterations, replacement parts, rerouting or other corrective work are separate. Pinnacle will explain the condition found and discuss the available options before moving forward. No additional repair or alteration work will be performed without customer approval.
Some problems may be repairable during the original appointment if the customer approves the work and the required time and materials are available. More significant findings may require a follow-up appointment, separate estimate, additional materials, coordination with a fuel supplier or utility, or another trade.
Real-estate and homeowner reporting
The purpose of this service is to provide useful information about conditions observed and tested at the time of the appointment. Written findings or photo documentation can be offered when specifically included in the booked scope. Pinnacle does not use a blanket “pass/fail” statement to imply governmental certification unless a specific test standard and reporting requirement are part of the contracted service.
What to tell us when booking
- Property address and reason for testing.
- Natural gas, propane/LP or unsure.
- Whether you believe the system is 2 PSI or below, higher-pressure propane, or unsure.
- How many gas appliances are connected and what they are.
- Whether the request is for a homeowner baseline, real estate, product/appliance evaluation or another non-emergency reason.
- Any known recent piping or appliance changes.
Frequently asked questions
Is gas system testing an emergency service?
No. It is a scheduled, paid evaluation. Active gas odor, active leakage or immediate danger is not a scheduled Pinnacle service. Leave the area first. Natural-gas customers should call their utility or 911 from a safe location; propane customers should call their propane supplier, or 911/local fire department if the supplier cannot be reached.
Do you test both natural gas and propane?
Yes for standard customer-side systems operating at 2 PSI and below. Higher-pressure testing is currently offered on propane systems as a separately scoped service.
Can you test a home for a real-estate transaction?
Yes. Real-estate and property-evaluation requests are a primary use for this scheduled service. The exact documentation included should be agreed upon when the appointment is booked.
What if you find a leak?
If the condition cannot safely remain in service, the affected appliance/branch or the customer-side system may be isolated and tagged out of service until repair and retest are complete.
